Welcome to 2022.

This is my wish for you this year...that whatever your heart beats for, that we all together beat. Whether it beats for new changes or no changes at all, whether for more or for less, whether for reaching or for resting, may we all be together supporting one another this year.

All the January Feels...

I have been pleasantly surprised at the number of anti-resolution, you are already ok, just take it one step at a time posts I've seen in my feed in the last couple of weeks. It's possible I've curated all the over-the-top hype machines out of my social networks finally, but regardless...it's refreshing to see the more mainstream focus on easing into the new year and not beating yourself up about how much better you could be. In fact, rest and a slower pace have been key themes from many influential voices.

This is an uncomfortable way of thinking, I've noticed.

If I'm not going to try to lose 10 pounds in the next 2 weeks, what am I going to do instead?
Eat something green.
If I don't get more productive, how will I have enough time to get it all done?
It doesn't all have to be done.
If I don't improve myself/learn something new, will I get left behind?
Left behind by whose definition?

It's interesting to me how deeply conditioned we are to have to improve, grow, change ourselves this time of year. Yes, the start of the new year is as good a time as any to start. Harness that energy! And, be open to the energy that comes on a random Tuesday in February when something sparks your interest or the time finally feels right. (And, don't get me started on the patriarchial marketing machine that keeps us in a perpetual perceived sense of lack...)

I'm practicing this myself too. Want to know a secret? I didn't have a Word of the Year before the year started. Gasp! I'm usually the person whose Word comes to her in the fall, I gift myself a bracelet with it on it for Christmas, and plaster it around my house when the decorations come down. Guess what? Nothing bad happened because I didn't have it. And, I bet that nothing bad will happen to you either if you don't have a Word of the Year yet (or ever).

I'm a fan of the Word of the year, simply because it has been fun for me to see how it shows up in different ways. This year, my Word(s) are: Intentional and Ease. I'm focusing on making intentional decisions with my limited resources of time and attention and approaching new challenges (including daily life!) with ease. If you do a Word too, let me know what it is!
